Mourning Lost Posts

Thursday, October 28, 2010 | 2 Comment(s)

It finally happened.

It was bound to, really.

It feels like an initiation of sorts.

This afternoon I went to the coffee shop and wrote a long-ass post.  So long, in fact, that i decided to save the final bit to do tonight.

And then tonight i went ahead and erased it and couldn't get it back.  Yes i tried Control+Z.
It's gone.  All that time and energy.  All the witty barbs and spastic metaphors.

I didn't even get to reread it.

That really sucks ass. I've had that happen more times than I can count--usually when I type a long response into a form field and something goes wrong with the submission, and my response goes *poof.* It's particularly infuriating when I'm giving very valuable detailed feedback in an online survey, and they've stupidly programmed the survey to time out after a while, or to have an undisclosed text limit (why limit the feedback you get?? argh!), or it's just badly programmed--and *poof.* Gone.

It took a long time, but I finally learned never to trust text boxes. I type whatever I want to say in my own text editor, saving periodically, and then copy/paste when ready to upload. Or I'll type in the textbox and periodically copy everything to the clipboard, or to a local file.

Which is good, because as you can see, I'm really friggin long-winded.

    *poof*
